Mother and Baby Home report

This is my initial response to the Mother and Baby Home report released yesterday.

The document is almost 3,000 pages long and is a dense read.
It willl take time to digest.

The testimony is scant, why were only a few lines of testimony taken from people? The overall tone has whitewashed the entire experience of mothers and the children who ended up within these institutions.

The Government has had the report since October.
They've been able to liase with the religious orders and media and put out their own spin on the whole thing.
Despite promises that the survivors would be first in line to receive the document, nobody got a full hard copy and it's only available on line.
I doubt any audio vesions are available.
How many elderly survivors can read on line?
Many were asked to comment before they'd even read the report?.

Few have a proper chance to speak out because of the present restrictions.
Who can be read to if needed?
Or supported if they are rightly upset?

The whole thing's a farce and an exercise in damage limitation for Church and State pushing all culpabilty on the people's families.
