Latest on Children's graveyard Mother and Baby Home Tuam:
|Model of the Mother and Baby Home by Catherine Corless|
Although I have been before the Commission of Inquiry and have given them a copy of each and every piece of my years of research and findings into the Mother and Baby Home in Tuam and the children's graveyard, they do not engage with me as regards any revelations. I continue to help the Survivors of this Institutions on a daily basis in a voluntary capacity. My first step is to give them the information, that Tusla hold the Registers of mothers and children who have been in the Tuam Home, and I direct them to Tusla for that information, but so many Survivors come back to me in dismay that Tusla have no answers for them except for a few scant details. I then use my own limited resources to help them find news of their mothers/family, and often sadly just the resting place of family, as too much time has passed for contact. I can only hope that the Commission of Inquiry will do justice to all the Survivors and continue the probe into the children's graveyard, as it is the wish of Survivors who have family buried there to have this area recognised as a children's graveyard and to offer them some final dignity.
Meanwhile as regards the massive outpouring of grief and generosity from people worldwide back in 2014, there is a fund of nearly 40,000 Euro in place for the provision of the bronze plaques and memorial garden to the babies and children who died, with all the names and ages of those 798 babies and children who are buried there. We cannot go ahead with this plan of erecting the plaques and memorial garden until the Commission of Inquiry will issue their final Report on what they intend to do about the children's graveyard. I will post any new developments if I hear of any.
