Bookbag - Rutland National School Visit

They certainly are and artists

What a wonderful day! Not only did I get to wallow in Nessa O'Mahony's fantastic writing session (a follow on course in creative writing) at the writers centre this morning, but I also got to visit the inspiring 3rd and 4th class pupils at Rutland N.S. Thanks teachers for allowing me to dive bomb your classrooms. I was asked many interesting questions, including did I make Despicable Me 2? Tempting to say yes but unfortunately not...we did get onto the subject of minions and as promised here are some of my youngest son's lego creations (not from a kit.) It was lovely to meet Deirdre (3rd class teacher extraordinaire, originally from Corofin, Co.Galway) and hope the children enjoyed creating the super hero ID badges as much as I enjoyed seeing them being worn. Thanks for a lovely outing everyone. Keep up the really great work!
I'm sure we'll see some of these books on the shelves of bookshops in the coming days.

Really looking forward to meeting 3rd and 4th class pupils at Rutland National School in Dublin tomorrow.
Bookbag is a children’s book gifting initiative, kickstarted by funding from Brown Bag Films and delivered in partnership with Laureate na nÓg and Children’s Books Ireland. Rutland National School is the first school chosen to take part in this scheme; Brown bag and CBI hope to bring books to many more schools in the future.
Under the scheme, every child in the school will get a brand new book to take home and keep – a book that is fun, entertaining, high quality and that will encourage reading for the love of it, not just to learn.
Niamh Sharkey believes that reading is a great way to explore new worlds through the imagination and to discover amazing illustrations – no matter how young or old you are.

Feile na Bealtaine 2014

There's was something wonderful happening in Dingle last week and it was great to have been part of it all. Stories, character creation and absolute craic flowed abundantly. Thanks to all the wonderful children (9 classes) who always provoke great excitement, the amazing Trish Forde - road trip partner and fellow conspirator and to all the lovely people who warmed our hearts and our beds (we had electric blankets switched on advance of our arrival- what hospitality.) Thank you :-)
