Professional Development Day for Illustrators

The newly refurbished Malahide Castle was the stunning venue for our seminar yesterday and what a thought-provoking, inspiring day it was. Full of practical advice about licensing, the advantages and disadvantages of having an agent, funding opportunities and the potential for #illustration to evolve onto apps, animation and in #gallery spaces; it really was a multi-faceted gem of a day. A definite theme emerged as over and over again, each of the wonderful speakers encouraged us to stick to our own philosophy, think expansively and use whatever means to communicate with our audience. Many of us have come to #illustration via a winding path and as Fig Taylor put it, we are 'cross-disciplinary practioners' which is perfectly acceptable and an advantage.

Finishing off a fantastic outing, we were all treated to a delicious wine reception and a fun tour of the castle. Many thanks CBI, Fingal County Council and Laureate na nOg, #Niamh Sharkey. You might just have started a revolution... If people don't feel compartmentalised and there's a blurring of the artistic disciplines, who knows what exciting work can be formed, in any context and by any means?
